Chevy Silverado vs. Ford F-Series: Heartland vs. Alaska

“You can’t beat the Bow-tie, the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado is unsurpassable.”

When I was in college, my best friend and I would use to argue about which was better, the Chevy Silverado or the Ford F-150. She preferred the F-150, while I was Silverado girl to the core. Her reasoning for liking Fords? “Because they look awesome!” I prefer Chevy styling but look but looks aren’t everything honey. Never judge a book by its cover. My reasoning for claiming the Bow-tie? They’re well built trucks, you can trust them to get the job done, their payload and towing capability are insurmountable, and the Ford F-150 just looks puny next to the Chevrolet Silverado. The difference between my best friend and me? She grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and I grew up in the Heartland, Nebraska. Now don’t get me wrong, Alaska is a great state and Ford and even Dodge trucks are good trucks; but you can’t beat the Bow-tie, the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado is unsurpassable.

If you’re looking for variety, but not an overwhelming selection, Chevy is the route to go. With four main trim levels and one extra trim level for the Silverado 1500, you can mix-and-match trim levels with cab sizes, cargo-bed lengths with 2 and 4WD. The Silverado has the ability to make any ride feel comfortable even if the ride is long. Plus it has low wind and road noise levels. If the latest technology isn’t your biggest concern or having a fashionable interior that the Chevy Silverado 2012 is the road you should take.

 Chevy Silverado 2012

“A Chevy Silverado LTZ that is more fuel friendly.”

As I mentioned previously there is a trim level that most consumers don’t know is out there If you’re looking for a fuel efficient, but don’t like the sticker shock of the Silverado Hybrid, check out the XFE trim level. XFE = eXtra Fuel Economy and it’s a trim variant for the 2WD, 5.3-liter V8 crew cab that features aerodynamic enhancements and lightweight aluminum components that improve fuel economy. So what it really is is a Chevy Silverado LTZ that is more fuel friendly.

The beautiful thing about the Chevy Silverado is that it’s like premium vanilla ice cream and you can add custom toppings as you wish. Sometime it’s hard to personalize a truck so it won’t take away from the character and charisma of the truck, but that’s not the case with the Chevy Silverado. If you’re judging this book by its cover, take a look under the hood, you won’t be disappointed.

And Sid Dillon won’t disappoint you either. Sid Dillon Dealerships are here to serve you as you shop for a new truck or car. With a wide variety of makes and models, you’re bound to find a vehicle to fit your needs. Come by for a visit, and you’ll see what I mean.

Used Trucks – The Old and Simplified

There’s something about riding in an old truck that makes life simpler and not so rushed.”

As a farmer’s granddaughter, there were plenty of opportunities to ride along with Grandpa around the family farm; checking on calves and crops. His 1978 Chevy smelled of dust, alfalfa, cow manure, and sweat. The floor was littered with hay, twine, and wire and his leather gloves sat on the middle seat. The truck bed wasn’t much better; a spare tire, spools of wire, fence posts and a hay bale or two. But there’s something about riding in an old truck that makes life simpler and not so rushed.

cool old chevy truck

It seems that more advanced the society becomes the further we get away from the basics of the old days. You don’t need to hear a story from your grandfather to know the old days were the better days and the vehicles reflected that whether it was a Ford F-150 or a Chevy C10. If you’re looking to simplify your life look at an old used Ford,Chevy, or Dodge. They may be rusted in the fenders and run slower and the windows are hand cranks, but it’s basic and understated.

The Chevy Avalanche is great for a small family who is big into sports.”

If you’re looking for a newer pre-owned truck, with power windows and an automatic transmission; Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, are still making reliable trucks and you’ll probably find a Nissan as well. Chevrolet also came out with the versatile Chevrolet Avalanche placing used Avalanches on the market as previous owners traded them in for newer models. An ingenious mixture of truck and SUV, the Chevy Avalanche is great for a small family who is big into sports.

The 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche is so versatile, it can change from an SUV to a pickup in less than a minute! With its dual personality, the 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche creates a perfect blend of flexibility and functionality for people who are ready for anything at a moment’s notice. With the Chevy Avalanche’s split-folding rear bench seat down and the Midgate® lowered, you’ve got the capability of a full-size truck, while enjoying the comforts, looks and feel of an upscale SUV. It’s a great vehicle with two distinct masks.

2012 Chevrolet AvalancheExterior

Because of it’s dual characteristics as an SUV and truck, it’s hard to miss the unique design of the Avalanche. For the 2012 year, it’ll stand out even more with exterior touches such as the power-retractable assist steps, plus the available matching body-color exterior components. The “ingenious” midgate transforms the Chevy Avalanche from a five or six-passenger SUV to a full-size truck. By lowering the 60/40 split-folding bench seat and the midgate, you’ve assembled a secured cargo area, or the rear window and three-piece tonneau cargo cover can be removed for more room to transport larger items. The Avalanche’s cargo box features a lockable tailgate, rigid tonneau cover and top storage box. It will accommodate 4’ x 8’ building materials, has 50” between the wheel housing, and it offers 45.5 cubic feet of space. When comes to storage capacity, the 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche has the largest trunk on the market.

The 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 LT offers heated, leather-appointed front seats. The 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 LTZ gives a heated steering wheel, plus heated and cooled, leather-appointed, 12-way power front bucket seats for year-round comfort. Remote vehicle start gives you the option to start your Avalanche from your house or office.

Chevy Avalanche rear view

The 2012 Chevy Avalanche offers up to 8,100 lbs. of towing capacity to haul large equipment such as boats, snowmobiles or motorcycles. Thanks to coil-spring suspension, the Avalanche won’t sacrifice ride quality. Active Fuel Management Technology activates all engine cylinders when more power is needed and deactivates four of the eight cylinders with quality precision to conserve fuel; helping the Avalanche offer an impressive EPA-estimated 21 mpg highway and a driving range up to 650 miles when running on gas. The 2012 Avalanche was built with the right combination of horsepower and torque to handle bigger payloads. The standard 5.3L Vortec V8 delivers 320 hp and 335 lb.-ft. of torque, giving the power to take what’s inside of behind where it needs to go. The flexibility continues at the pump with the standard FlexFuel-capable engine, which can run on either unleaded fuel or E85.

The 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche is a cross between two popular body styles, Chevy designers and engineers grafted a 5-foot-3 pickup bed onto the underpinnings of the brand’s Suburban SUV, creating a unique vehicle that combines the best of both worlds so that you can enjoy your world with comfort, style, sensibility, and simplicity.

2013 Chevy Sonic RS, Turbo Charged Performance

Chevrolet has pulled off the tarp and revealed a hotter and sporty new Sonic.

The 2013 Sonic at 2012 Detroit Auto Show, slated for impressive debut. As Chevy’s latest B-segment contender, the Sonic looks better, handles better, and stops shorter. Its styling is more sleek and trim than that of a standard car. Though the Sonic’s looks seem mirrored from the Aveo RS concept, there’s a more aggressive fascia up front with an RS-specific grille and a set of unique fog lights, new rocker panels, and a refreshed rear bumper and spoiler. Chevy is also including a nice set of 17-inch wheels.

2013 Sonic Turbo charged RS

The interior has been dressed up too. Sport seats, a thicker steering wheel with a flat bottom, aluminum pedals, and a unique instrument-cluster design are now standard on the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS. The turbocharged 1.4-liter engine, producing power output of 138hp and 148 lb-ft of torque were good enough to propel the Sonic to 60 mph in just over 8 seconds.

Chevy Sonic Turbo in 2013

Currently Turbo Sonics are currently only available in the manual, but this RS is entering into a new era, offering both the 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Engineers did work with the RS’s gearing—the manual gets closer ratios, and the automatic has a shorter final drive—so it will be slightly quicker than the standard turbo.

2013 RS Sonic Turbo Interior

A hotter Chevrolet Sonic is about to sound off! It goes on sale in late 2012 and the RS will amplify the Sonic’s youthful style and driving experience with its unique exterior and interior features matched with a 138-hp Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine. Sonic is the only vehicle in its segment that offers a turbocharged powertrain. “The new Chevrolet Sonic RS pushed Chevrolet’s performance heritage in a new direction, for a new generation of drivers,” vice president  of Global Chevrolet Marketing, “It takes the Sonic’s great design and latest connectively features and combines them with a more performance-oriented look and feel.”

2011 Chevy Silverado and Silverado HD : Best Truck For Sale in 2011 : Sid Dillon

Chevy Silverado: Best Truck in 2011

In 2011 the Chevrolet Truck division released the Silverado HD with a new look to the front, as well as, a 20 inch wheels option. GM engineers focused more on the suspension, powertrain, and frame (HD models receiving fully boxed frames to further improve stiffness and reduce vibration). They were able to reduce emissions, reduce interior noise levels, improve ride, and increase capability.

2011 Silverado HD 3500, Silverado 2500HD, 1500 Silverado

The front independent front suspension was completely changed, improving the ride, handling capabilities and increasing the front axle weight rating. This new design allows for a better snowplow attachment on 4WD models and improves function with 2WD models. To meet new Diesel emission regulations, GM designed a new exhaust after treatment system reducing NOx emissions over the 2010 DuraMax engine by 63 percent. At the same time GM hugely increased the horsepower to 397 and torque to 765 in the 6.6-liter. The 6 liter Vortec V8 was essentially untouched remaining at 360 horsepower with 380 pound-feet of torque.

The Chevy Silverado’s has better horsepower to weight ratios than the competition in every example, despite some competitors having slightly more power this puts the Chevys over them in terms of capability. Not only that but the Silverado has the best passing power and has the fastest 0-60 from standstill while loaded or with no cargo. The competition is fierce and some competitors will give the Silverado a run for its money, but overall the Silverado with its superior DuraMax Diesel engine wins nearly every test at the strip and on the street. Helping is the mighty Allison transmission in the diesel Chevy and the super smooth Hydra-Matic transmissions in the gas trucks. Rounding out the competition with the crushing performance of the Chevy Silverado 3500HD it stops quicker than any other truck in the class from 60 mph.

The Chevrolet exudes confidence and capability, it feels better than is competition while working vigorously. Whether diesel or gas powered, it is faster than the competition. It provides a better ride, superior handling, increased fuel economy, and at a lower price than Chevy’s competitors. There is no room to argue that the Chevy Silverado is clearly the truck of the year for 2011. The 2012′s are still leading the pack with continued refinements so have a look at one today and don’t forget the Silverado 1500, the Silverado 2500HD, and all the Silverado 3500HD trucks for sale.

2013 Dodge Dart RT Revealed – Compact Sedan

Chrysler Group released an early view of its 2013 Dodge Dart RT ahead of its official debut scheduled for the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

2013 Dodge Dart RT - Front

Chrysler noted in it’s press release on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, that “the 2013 Dodge Dart is quite similar to the Dodge Dart of the late 1960s but offers a special blend of style, performance and innovation.”

The new Dart is the first Chrysler Group vehicle based on the Fiat architecture, adapted from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It will have three engine choices. The choices include an improved Tigershark 16-valve 2.0 liter engine, a 16 valve 1.4 liter Intercooled MultiAir Turbo engine, or the new Tiger shark 16 valve 2.4 liter MultiAir four cylinder engine. MultiAir a variable valve system which lets the engine provide higher efficiency and more powerful performance on demand. Chrysler also stated that they would be pairing the three engines with three different transmission choices but did not comment on what those options would be.

In addition, Chrysler promised class-leading aerodynamic performance for the 2013 Dodge Dart through exterior shape using by fluid and dynamic lines.

Scheduled to be built at the Belvidere, Illinois plant the Dart for 2013 will have available 18 inch wheels and standard four-wheel independent suspension. Along with all the other yet-to-be-revealed details Dodge performance and styling packages will be suitable to position itself strong within tight competition from Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda  to mention a few.

The Chevy Colorado: Cool 2013 Truck for Sale [Next year.. Can’t wait!]

The new Chevy Colorado for 2013 has another year before being released. Almost 2 billion dollars was used to develop the new Chevrolet Colorado and it shows. The refinement is so great that it’s value will be further beyond price than even the previous version, hard to believe perhaps but still true. The Chevy Colorado will undoubtedly be the mid-sized king in 2013 with improved handling from a stiffer body, stability management, electronic traction control, a wider track for more direct steering, and countless interior and body changes.

2013 Chevy Colorado Truck

Compared with the first-gen Colorado, power improvements are significant. There’s more than enough ‘passing power’ under acceleration, through overtaking, or from a standstill. Dominant power for the class that is expected from a midsize truck with 346 lb-ft of torque on tap. According to Chevrolet, the final-drive ratio was a balance between gas mileage and street or work truck performance, best of both worlds without compromising either.  Extended Cab and Crew Cab, 4 x 4 Colorado, 2 x 2 Colorado trucks from 2011 are available now with more 2012 Chevy trucks rolling out.

Estimates on price are true to the segment, in line for midsize pickups while the value from improvements to the Chevrolet brand will continue to deepen. The new 2013 Chevrolet Colorado will be a fun and exciting improvement to the already dominant mid sized truck. Taking the best from the original 2004 Colorado through the current 2012’s and 2011 Chevy Colorado have to offer and refining it to perfection.

2012 Buick Regal GS: Performance, Luxury, and Looks to Spare

The new Buick Regal for 2012 has gone through a host of changes bringing it up the venerated Gran Sport status. The last Regal Gran Sport packed a big V-6 and ceased production in 2004 but with its direct injection turbocharged four cylinder the new Regal GS does not disappoint, With a compact engine producing surprising results, displacing just two liters, the direct-injection turbo four makes 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque which powers the GS to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds while [the six speed manual versions will be] getting 19 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.

2012_Buick_Regal_GS Buick Regal GS 2012

The car’s 3732 pound curb weight may not be svelte but acceleration is beyond suitable for aggressive driving, if sub-sportscar, acceleration. Despite the curb weight, the Regal GS is able to stop from 70 mph in just 160 feet, while it shows a real strong skid pad test of 0.90 g. The factory aggressive Pirelli P Zero tires were a factor in this. Coupled with the good stability and minimal body movement the steering remains lightly plush with less feedback through the wheel than many cars of similar performance.

2012 buick gs regal   2012 GB Buick Regal

Relatively quiet and refined exhaust note from the turbo is pleasant but may call for something like a Borla exhaust to bring it up to it’s street growl potential.

The interior of the 2012 Buick Regal GS is everything one expects from Buick. Dark colors and appropriate textures abound while all buttons and controls are easily accessible and easy to read. Firm seats and a good view make spirited driving an easy transition from luxury cruising. All in all the New GS is a great car that balances neatly between luxury and performance and looks real good doing it.

Buying a Used Car, Used Truck or Used SUV and New Auto Options

Buying a used car isn’t easy and car dealerships have grown a long ways from just being simple car lots. Whether looking for a new or used car you may be finally getting the Chevy Corvette you always wanted or getting that Jeep Wrangler you’ve been eyeing for camping trips. More often though buying a used car means that you either need to replace your clunker or need to add a car to your garage. Though it can be a big step buying a car does  does not have to be an intimidating or expensive process.

In the digital age searching for your car can even be easier than making the decision on what you want. Most dealerships, like Sid Dillon, have the ability to search online for everything from used cars, used trucks, used SUVs, new cars, new trucks, and new SUVs. you can even go through different financing options right on their site making the rest of the process quick and simple.

After buying a car one of the biggest benefits of selecting the right dealership is the service they provide after the deal is done. A good dealership will always stand behind their customers with solid service, doing whatever they can to help you in the future with parts, accessories, maintenance, or body shop work.

Here is an excerpt from the Federal Trade Commission Facts for Consumers regarding buying a car:
Before you start shopping for a car, you’ll need to do some homework. Spending time now may save you serious money later. Think about your driving habits, your needs, and your budget. You can learn about car models, options, and prices by reading newspaper ads, both display and classified. There is a wealth of information about used cars on the Internet: enter “used car” as the key words and you’ll find additional information on how to buy a used car, detailed instructions for conducting a pre-purchase inspection, and ads for cars available for sale, among other information. Libraries and book stores also have publications that compare car models, options, and costs, and offer information about frequency-of-repair records, safety tests, and mileage. Many of these publications have details on the do’s and don’ts of buying a used car. [link]
